Your Dentists for the Whole Family. Your Family Dentist Your Child’s Dentist

At Lifetime Dental we love to treat the whole family and we are considered to be one of the best Family Dentists in Melbourne. Being Holistic dentists we like to have a view of the whole family’s needs and wants. That way we can give you the information you need to make an informed decision about the best way to proceed. We can set up a family prevention program and help you maintain healthy teeth and gums and happy smiles you are proud to show off, that will last your whole life.  We are able to provide complete dental care for everyone in the family from babies to parents to grandparents. Our focus to dental care is life long. We understand the various milestones that need to be reached along life’s journey to have the healthiest and least number of dental problems. We know when things are off track and problems are likely to jump up at us. We love guiding you over life’s hurdles with the least number of hassles.

We love to see babies and young children and we know how to make their dental visit a happy, fun and positive first experience for them and you. As your children grow, we monitor their facial growth and development. Teach them and you how to breath and swallow normally to achieve ideal facial growth and beautiful smiles. Good habits established in childhood will last a lifetime and ensure they grow into adults with healthy, bright, radiant smiles. Our growth guidance program monitors their growth so we can make sure they are growing normally. If not, then we can instigate simple treatments in a timely manner to get them back on track and growing normally. With this approach we find that more than 50% of our kids can avoid braces and so far after 30 years of orthodontics I have never had to extract a permanent tooth to relieve crowding. Often I get mums coming to me for a second opinion after the Orthodontist has recommended extraction of permanent teeth to relieve the crowding in their child’s mouth. So far, touch wood, I have been able to create straight teeth and a beautiful smile with no extractions of permanent teeth. They say “Fail to Plan and You Plan to Fail”. We love treating the whole family because it allows ups to Plan for the future and help you all realise your Dental Goals.

The ‘Healthy Families, Healthy Smiles’ Initiative

The importance of Good Oral Health during Pregnancy and Early Childhood. Good oral health is essential to overall health and well-being. Tooth decay is Victoria’s most prevalent health problem, with more than half of all children affected as well as being the second most costly diet-related disease in Australia. Teeth can decay as soon as they erupt and severe tooth decay can be extremely painful, cause disturbed sleep, affecting school grades and hinder children from achieving healthy weight. Poor oral health is also seen to be linked to poor speech development affecting the child’s ability to communicate as well as overall self-esteem.

Dental problems are the third most common reason for preventable hospital admissions for children under the age of 5 in 2010 – 2011 (asthma and ear, nose and throat infections are the other two).

Pregnancy is an important time for women to concentrate on their oral health. Poor oral health increases the risk of gum disease, and severe gum disease has been linked to low birth weight and premature birth. Poor maternal oral health has been associated with early childhood teeth decay. Tooth decay in children is a disease of disadvantage. About 20% of Australian 4 year olds, examined in public health clinics had 90% of tooth decay for that age group.
